Hi List,
I had a MacBook for a very short time, and never found out if VO commands
can be comustized, or not? The learning curve seems very steep to me, and I've
tried searching for podcasts and documentation.

  Hi Shannon,

I've been using a Mac for four years, and I was surprised to see that
comment. Frankly, I think that you can tell that Voiceover is integrated into
the operating system, it just works much more smoothly than do the third-party
screen-readers.. It doesn't hang like JAWS does, I'm not stuck in blank
screens where I don't know what's going on, etc. Personally, I don't see
Voiceover as being limited in any way.

  Just my $.02,
  Donna

Thanks all for your responses. I guess the last question that we have yet
to really get an answer on is when someone during one of their responses
mentioned that the accessibility of voiceover isn’t as great as windows, or did
they say it’s rather limited. Is this truly the case, and if so what is the
details on this as this answer is going to weigh heavily on what we decide to
do for purchasing the next computer.
Also, I’m assuming no one has any information on when the newest
macbook pros will be coming out since we’ve been looking at the newest macbook
pro which has been out now for almost a year so would seem that they’re due for
an updated version here in the near future.

    Take care,

HI. I didn't bother with the trial version I just bought it.

Don't know if that makes a difference or not.

I should just take the plunge and buy VMWare. I suppose there's enough
knowledgeable people on the list who could help me through the rough spots.

HI. I've owned my mac for over a year now. I do run a vm from time to
time but am finding less and less need to go in to windows. It did take me a
while to learn, but the thing I love about the mac is that it just seems to
work. No laggie pauses when you hit a key and wait for 5 seconds for a screen
reader to tell you what's happening etc. I feel like I have the best of both
worlds, I can use windows if I need to, and I can have the stability of the
mac.

        I hope this makes sense.

Blessings! Maria Joe and loving guide Karly.

I bought my Mac about two months ago, at the same time, I got rid of
my Windows computer totally. Not very long thereafter, my fiancé got her mac.
Okay, she still wants to chuck it threw a wall from time to time, but that
phase is also passing now.

The mac to me, is more intuitive, it seems to me as though Apple
wants to make the interface more like that of the iPad, in so doing, making the
OS easier to learn.

Okay, the fact that Apple tries to protect the users from themselves
is annoying from time to time, though that can be worked around as well.

As someone said earlier, when an app conks out on you, the whole
system doesn't go with it, and that is worth the cost difference to me. How
many times have I had my windows computer freeze on me because of one app, I
honestly cannot say. This however, does never happen on the Mac, not to my
knowledge anyway.

Another point to the Mac, is the fact that if and or when your
operating system breaks, you can do a complete reinstall on your own, something
which is impossible using windows.

Something else that benefits me greatly, is the built in dictation
feature of Mountain lion. Due to only having one hand, my typing speed has been
decreased by at least half. Now, that is no longer a factor, and another reason
why the mac is cost effective for me. It increased my productivity two levels
higher than before I lost the use of my hand, obviously because I can talk
faster than I could ever type.

There you have my contribution to the Mac versus Windows debate, no
matter how insignificant it maybe.

          Warm regards,

              Hi there
Personally, I like TextEdit and pages better than I like in this

When I made the switch, I had choices because I am self-employed, and I could
call my customer and tell her that I was Changing and therefore, I was no
longer going to use tables. I do make Excel files by converting them from
Numbers. I have of voided putting windows on my computer like the plague. It's
just prejudice. Also, my husband has a Windows computer which has just 13 on
it. So, if I have a burning need to use Windows, I can use his computer,
something I do about once a year. The big thing I use it for is editing PDF
files such as forms. That is something we need added for the Macintosh. I hope

                Hello,

I will do my best to chime in on this subject.

I used windows since 1995 in college and 1998 at home. I found
the switch fro Windows to Mac rather arduous because my computer had a couple
not serious issues and I didn't have training (I hadn't found this list yet)
Once the learning curve was over, I find Mac easier and more intuitive but
there are some things I like better about windows to this day. I like the
feedback that voice over provides, for example, when copying and pasting, but I
like burning css on windows better. For utilizing talking communities chat
client, I prefer windows but for Skype I prefer Mac.

                  Hello list,
I'm a new subscriber as of today and would like to ask this
direct question without getting a lot of elitest Mac/Windows mentalities. What
I mean by this is I would love to get some feedback from you guys on the list
about an unbiased bit of feedback on your experiences with the Mac. I also
would like to know what you guys have experienced as being pros to the switch
from a windows machine to that of a Mac system as well as cons if there is
any. Have any of you used boot camp or another way of running windows
successfully on a Mac?
The reason I want to get this information is because my wife
just recently had her Toshiba laptop give out on her after just three to four
years and is rather disappointed with her experiences in windows laptops so she
is tossing around the idea of a Mac. However, before making the decision to
just jump into the decision she would like to get as much
information as possible and weigh the advantages and disadvantages first so
that she makes the best decision for her in the long run without being stuck
shelling out money on a system she won't like. I ask about running Windows in
boot camp or through another avenue because she enjoys mudding and uses VIP mud
which is made only for windows so will likely need to use this in the short
term at the very least until she can find a client that works as well with
voiceover on the Mac.
I thank all responses you guys can give us and thank you all
in welcoming me to the list.

                  Take care,
