That is your opinion. I use it in several documents. My personal goal
for every LyX release is "fight the ERT!". With my commit I squashed a
document class option and ERT to set the indent length.
Also, with WYSIWYG we don't need to exactly reproduce this
value in the GUI, it is OK if equations are aligned and indented by the
default value.
JMarc said he will ad code tho reflect also the indentation length. This
would be a nice feature also for WYSIWYM.

settings because I still think that it is unintuitive to look in the
text layout settings for a math-only option.
Agreed. (Also, in the Math settings pane, non-mathematical connotations
to "formula" are less likely.)
However, I can also understand the arguments to have it in the Text
Layout (which is about "how to spread content on the page"), so I have no
strong preference here.
I have because I will also support the document class option "leqno" and
this belongs in my opinion also to the Math settings panel.
