Hmm, yeah I see.
The problem is that I am also dealing with the lack of time.

The abntcite package is part of a so called abnTeX which is a discontinued
project.
So it is full of bugs, compatibility issues, it is not very well design IMO.
I mean, there is lots of work to do with it yet.
Change it to a BibLatex would be a great improvement, but it needs time.
