Oh...   were you logged in?  (They're more difficult to see then).

Please make sure you are logged out and look at both the english and the japanese pages. (I've placed the flags differently).

Any improvement? If it's still not good enough, would bigger flags help?

Pretty soon I think I'll ask on the users' list how easily detected the flags are... Or ask for a design. I find this kind of UI design difficult.

That could work, or the same flag but with an 'X' over it?

No, rather the flqg with a box around it (I am sure css can do that for you).

I was thinking of using separate icons, CSS isn't my strong suite.

However, I don't see what the box would indicate. Here's how I imagined the combinations:

  Type of icon:         Translation:    Flag links to:
* Regular flag          Available       Translated page
* Crossed over          Not available   Japanese main page

How should I interpret your scheme, and what does the box mean?
