Indeed, small icons seem standard (say, 18x12 size here:
ftp://ftp.mrunix.net/pub/webalizer/webalizer-flags.tgz) and bigger,
good-looking ones are non-free (e.g. http://www.world-flags.net/).
I did find some and uploaded them here:

They're 16x11 pixels. As a reference, the language icon in the sidebar at
the mmoment is 16x16 pixels.
Btw, I put a link to the flag icons after the text in the sidebar.
Even better, right? Do you think it'd be enough with just the icons?
