Agreed. I understand the reasons for the change, but I personally almost always need mathbf, so information in release notes and a way to restore the previous behaviour is needed. Georg PS: The display in LyX is completely wrong: In the example from the math manual mathbf is displayed like normal math (italics, not bold), while boldsymbol is displayed like mathbf should be displayed (roman and bold). The letter theta is an exception, it is always italic and never bold (old bug in bugzilla). Ignore it if you like, I am too lazy to go to bugzilla :-(
