Vertical maximization is nice.

I understand that maximizing can be useful when you don't need to see
extra material, but many people do need that.

Also, maximizing LyX makes lines very long on a big enough screen and
thus lines are a pain to read (remember: 75 signs per line!).

If you let the outline open to the left and ultimately the citation dialog to the right it will be OK :-)
