I personally couldn't care less for imaginary 3rd world persons. If one
cares, one probably should start Third World Donation fund, steal all the
donations, go retire on that country, build a villa, hire a person in
question as a gardener and pay him salary big enough to cure him of AIDS.
;)
What I do care is me and my society. Is it better for me and for the
society that AIDS cure programs give very fast return of investment in
excange for more AIDS in my country because the resulting drug is too
expensive - or is it better to have some state-sponsored research program
that would not reap such a profit but would produce (probably) something
more generally usable. Or would not. That's a tough question. I wouldn't
qualify to judge on it.
