I find I suddenly lose half the need to choose how to call it once I
give proper credit where credit's due and refer to features of a
specific product: the Linux kernel is stable, UNIX has wonderful
design, GNU is a great implementation, XFree86 is featureful, Debian
is sophisticated, Corel is easy to install and so forth. Half the time
I find that people talk about Linux / GNU/Linux features when they
mean something that can just as well apply to, say, FreeBSD.

But I agree GNU deserves to name the OS family, having started it,
having contributed more code than anyone else, and (which you haven't
mentioned) leading most of the design, and organizing / initiating
more projects than any other organization.
