Betty and list Im a kinda facts and figures guy - not just selective figures either, so I read some posts on here with my teeth firmly clenched together to prevent the screams waking up half of Oz.
And whilst I respect the right of anyone to post pretty much whatever bollox they wish on here, I do wish to discuss some of the following points from Betty's article de jour released to 5Live "Through a combination of a minimum capital > investment, milking the fans through excessive pricing and by stripping > the club's operations to the bare bones he has produced the nightmare > that is now Leeds United." Bollox - Between Ridsdale et al , Krasner et al, and to a much lesser extent, Bates et al we have this nightmare - to blame it on Bates is the first indication of bias or prejudice against Bates "he has made a large number of very obvious > mistakes during his short but ineffectual reign" Has he now? And you are privvy to the finances of the club that show that any financial meltdown is due to Bates? And the the obvious playing style, players signed up and 2 different managers are all down to Bates? Hell surely the Big Brother fiasco with that Indian lass, is even down to Bates Im sure "The loss of Blackwell as an experienced manager who took us to the > playoffs was the first sign that he wasn't running the club properly." Yet the large majority of fans (more on that word later) were delighted to see the end of Blackwell. And the manager he installed, like him or loathe him, had more experience than Blackwell "The alienation of significant fans' groups through his insistence on > fleecing supporters with a membership scheme which has done exactly > nothing to sustain supporter numbers is compounded by the way that the > best person he could find to run it isn't even a Leeds United supporter." Whilst I agree the death of the old SC's was wrong, where exactly on the job description does the organiser of the Leeds Membership scheme have to be a Leeds supporter?? You dont honestly think our owner is a supporter do you - you dont think all the players are supporters do you? "Add to this Bates' archaic style with the media. Who honestly wants to > go to court with the newspaper that the bulk of your paying public read > over a nonesense? What football club chairman thinks its wise to ban > your local BBC TV station from press conferences for broadcasting a > phone video of said chairman having a rant in a car park? > Then of course there is the sight of a club owned by someone who's media > skills extend to talking about his granny catching her tits in a mangle." Insert the following Chairman you would like to be driving Leeds in the media (in no particular order: Publicity Pete Kwasner Ken Bates For me, Bates by a landslide "If Bates were a real businessman...." Your not serious are you? Oh you are!! Ok then this is the second indication of your bias against Bates. Again - I give you a multiple choice question. Who is the better businessman out there? A. Ken Bates? B. Pete C (t;other one)? C. Betty? "Leeds United is no longer a big club it is the victim of successive > raids on its assets starting with Fotherby and running through Caspian, > Ridsdale, Krasner's Consortium and now Ken Bates." Hurrah - Saves your entire post from being 100% bollox in my eyes anyway "Time for a change methinks and this time include supporters!" And just which fans should be included this time? The less than 20,000 we get to home games? The other 20 - 30,000 who have dropped off Those that didnt renew their season tickets Those that make the odd games Those that really support Farsley or Guisely or Harrogate? And the most annoying part, is where do you offer solutions? Yes ticket prices being lower would be nice, but this will affect the revenue streams how exactly? Do you know? Is a $1 reduction anything to write home about or should we slash prices by 50%? Again anyone can write what they want here (I just have), but to have sent that article to a media outlet, with you past daliances with the media, is downright embarrassing - makes you look like a bitter and twisted individual, which Im genuinely sure you arent Peter ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Boocock" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "LEEDS LIST" <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, January 23, 2007 7:40 AM Subject: [LU] Leeds United on 5 live > This is what I've sent to five live, don't know if they have got it nor > when they are going to kick Barry Fry off the air and get on with the > Leeds story :-) > > When Ken Bates took over at Elland Road he did it with the minimum of > capital investment.
