Follow up.  I went back to the site today and called the credit card tech 
department for the FOURTH time.  This time I seemed to get a knowledgeable 
person.  After about three minutes of checking fields with me, he claims the 
previous three techs garbled the programming.  After he finished with me, it 
works fine.  They do NOT check for caller ID.  The terminal will work on any 
line.

Thanks, everyone, for your comments.  As soon as he told me they do NOT 
check caller ID, I knew it was HIS problem, not mine ... and I was correct.
