I had a failure of one side of the DPDT switch (double pole, double
throw), and that story is at the bottom of the link y'all are referring to,
http://www.n56ml.com/electrical/index.html .
I've learned that lesson, and my answer is "use super high quality parts
for critical items", hence the Honeywell DPDT replacement as opposed to
the cheap OTTO DPDT switch. You can't implement a spare for everything,
carburetors, for example, exhaust systems, propellers,
and....CRANKSHAFTS! Some things you just have to install high quality
parts you can trust. At least with a high quality, high current-rated
Honeywell switch, you have two chances at success, as opposed to one
simple toggle switch. I sleep just fine at night.
Nothing wrong with two switches, other than stuff like accidentally
turning them both off at the same time, or your fuel pressure increasing
dramatically because you have two pumps running in series (and causing
some other problem). It's always something, and I made what I thought
was the simplest and best choice. I could be wrong, and that's why I
always fly at either 9500' or 10,500 feet, cloud cover permitting.
