As mentioned previously, the vast majority of GA aircraft use Mil Spec 5606,
which is flammable. Most commercial/heavy aircraft use Skydrol, which is fire
resistant. They are interchangeable, but not compatible. The Early Cubs (J-3,
J-4, and maybe the J-5) used DOT 3 fluid, but that was used with the expander
tube type of wheel brake and would not be recommended for a more conventional
type of drum or disc aircraft brake. Additionally, DOT 3 fluid is prone to
boiling under a hot brake condition leaving you with no brakes under extreme
conditions.
