I did all my taxi tests on a 6000' runway, so I barely used the brakes, if at all. I didn't install wheel pants until several months after I was flying, so that wasn't an issue either. I'd wager that there have been a lot more "first landing" loss of control accidents in KRs than were consumed by fire due to overheated brakes, which to my knowledge, is zero at this point. Yes, brakes are something to consider, but tail up/down and high speed taxi experience is near the top of the list prior to first landings, in my mind. I did it, and I'm convinced it made a big difference in how my first landings turned out, but others are certainly welcome to make their own decisions. I do what I can, the rest is up to the beholder....
