For the rest of you on the net who may be using a VW engine. I experienced
the same problem. However, with my 1835 and 1915, I did not have the
problem, but when going to the 2180, the temps were much too high for my
satisfaction. I tried everything and finally found the solution. I use the
Revmaster cooler mounted below the engine case and fed from the front. I
showed this solution to a friend who was having the same problem. He
implemented it and the problem was solved. My engine is now a 2276 and my
only problem is that the temps are too cool, but I can easily solve that one
with Mark L.'s solution of the Earls Sandwich adapter temperature control.

Check out the picture on the Revmaster site.

Revmaster is a great source for some items and information, and the engine
on his front page looks pretty good also.

What you are experiencing is pretty normal I think. The standard VW oil
cooler was designed for car use.
