Jim Hill did it that way for years. He says he could "talk forever". He even mounted his in the panel, with controls easily accessible. It worked for him, but I'll ask him for details. I think he still has the amp. Right now my Terra TX-760D is screwed up, so I'm going to have to use my ICOM on the way to SNF. The Terra sounds great in the headphones, but somewhere on the way to the antenna, it breaks up into unintelligible. I had a guy tell me the other day that I had the "crappiest radio I've ever heard". That hurts! I've discovered this is a common problem with the Terra (fine one day, garbled the next), and have a lead on a British guy that knows how to fix it...
