I don't recall the size required but I used "tin foil" for a ground plane. I sprayed the floor with spray adhesive and laid down the foil. It goes up and over the spruce cross pieces. Make sure the foil makes good contact with the "ground" contact on the antenna mount. Test indicated it works for me although I don't know the actual range. Larry Flesner
