RE: Are they suggesting you might get power from one antenna feeding to the
other and setting off the ELT or what?

Larry,

They don't suggest anything. Another issue that I discovered after sending
the message is that it requires a ground plane with a minimum diameter of 36
. If I go behind the seat, there is no flat place that will accommodate a 36
 in diameter ground plane.

The Little Beast had an ACK in it that was self contained. The antenna was
about the same as this one, except that it was part of the ACK. Before I
finished the plane, I had it stored in the trunk of my car along with all
the other stuff that I hauled back and forth to the airport. Not thinking
much about it, I never thought to remove the battery. Well, one night at
about 2am, the CAP were knocking on my door because the aircraft that had
been sent out of Shaw AFB had determined that the plane (the one my ELT was
supposed to be in) had crashed in my driveway. I thought that I was in
serious trouble, but they just cautioned me and took it as an exercise. Did
I ever feel like the luckiest idiot on the planet.

The point is, that thing worked from the trunk of my car and did not have
any such antenna set up as this thing is asking for. It would be nice to
know the requirements before buying stuff like this.
