I read selected parts of ESR's essay this weekend.
The underlying concepts can be tied in with those from his other works.
This exercise has me concerned frankly.
ESR's opening concept: since geeks are used to learning from
documentation, and effective at applying what they've learned this way,
let's provide them with documentation on success in sex; this should
also work for them.
Assume this is true. It implies that the method used to get sex, or
girlfriends, or a wife, etc.. is programmatic. I.e. this things are
predictable and can be behaviourally controlled, and that humans can be
trained to do them. This is a depressing viewpoint coming from an
anarchistic thinker such as ESR.
[My apologies for using the gender bias from this essay.]
Should we encourage anarchistic free thinking and at the same time
assume as individuals that other people can be easily manipulated
behaviouristically. Scary.

since no one else has taken this one up...I seem to recall, when first
finidng this page some time ago, sending it to a friend (who may out
herself if she wishes) with a very derogatory comment that probably
shoudln't be repeated on-list.
However, this was after I met ESR in person, and his attitude towards
women left a lot to be desired, imo -- don't get me wrong, I deeply
respect his geekhood and his geek politics, but something tells me that
putting me and him in a room together to discuss gender issues would
cause
a scene reminiscent of "The Gingham Dog and the Calico Cat"
V.(being civil..well, trying to anyway, since he isn't here to defend
himself)
