Wow -- so there has been progress! ;-)
To me, that experience was exactly the sort of thing that women are
talking about when they talk about the fact that even though
certain opportunities seem to exist, in a significant way they don't.
Sure, I was *allowed* to take shop, but *could* I? Not at that age,
that's for sure, and if I hadn't had pretty much positive experiences
since then (as I expressed in my earlier e-mail), I certainly would have
given up. And think about it -- my guidance counselor certainly knew what
would happen. He probably was honestly thinking of my own good when he
asked me if I was sure. But that didn't make him march down to the
teacher and tell him to act in an accepting manner to his female students,
did it? Wow, I really *am* riled about this!
