I've read this exchange with interest, and normally I'm a lurker but I just
had to speak up in response to the above. This may be a bit off topic so
I'll make it short--which is easy, since I have only one thing to say to
it, in the form of a quotation:

My guess is that a lot of Open Source advocates (ESR, for example) would
agree with this quote when it comes to software. It applies to jobs,
too...:)
