Man, you're getting real deep. As far as I can see what you're saying is correct with one proviso: You can reject mail either at the MTA or the user level. If you're rejecting at the MTA level, e.g. using sendmail's access feature, you'd reject based on envelope From address. OTOH if you reject at user level (e.g. using procmail) you would PROBABLY reject based on sender address in the message itself. Hmm, don't know the answer to that one. I'd guess it depends on where the message gets rejected. If the receiving MTA rejects it, then a localhost return address is fine. However if the receiving MTA accepts the message but the user rejects (throuhg procmail, e.g.) then a localhost address may not be such a good idea, since you won't get the bounce.
