Section-I

<Begin>
Should the ilugd not discuss following:

1. Use of Oracle on Linux Platform: Because it is proprietary SW and does not help freedom
2. Samba: Because it has no relevance without MS-Windows OS, again a proprietary product, and does not help freedom: I am helping the demon??
3. Multi-Media Players in linux requiring to play MP3, because it is proprietary, and does not help freedom: I am helping the demon??

If the answers to above are yes, i.e. you should not discuss these in ILUGD forums, then the re-born debate has a relavance, in so far as ILUGD is concerned.

If the answers to above are no, i.e you can discuss than:

Am I wrong in assuming that it is because you are using your rights under the 4 degrees of freedom FSF has talked about?

Section-II

<Begin>

Let us take the case of Kalkulate, a proprietary software, using GNU/GPL software components. Is it a case of derivative work? I think in this light we should discuss what a derivative work is and what is not? And does Kalkulate violate GPL? I think that is a more pertinent point of discussion wrt to the "freedom debate", than what we are trying to do in Section-I above.

Raj, have your views changed over the last 3 years? You were not, IIRC, so FSF-ish.
