I think it is something that is needed. To that end I tossed up the beginnings 
of my notes for a style guide on github. Contributions are welcome. 

So far I have mostly based it on Christian Pearces previous notes. I have made 
a few additions but in general its pretty sparse so far. I eventually want to 
include some design patterns for organizing files and possibly even 
recommendations for ways to integrate with version control (subversion and 
git). For example a team using git that wants to have peer review integrated 
into the process might want to consider using Gerrit [1], subversion users may 
want to consider using review board [2].
