I would also like to note that Wayland is still not a drop-in
replacement for Xorg, even with a compatibility layer, and it's not
necessary a problem either as long as people can choose.

For instance I somewhat recently switched from sway to i3 because I can
see 1080p videos with VLC on a ThinkPad X200 but I'm limited to 480p on
Wayland with VLC (and maybe 720p with mplayer but some 1080p videos are
too slow to be played).

I suspect it has something to do with the xv video resizing
acceleration that is missing on Wayland.

Not so long ago there was also a huge gap with graphical tablets on
Wayland[1], though over time this has more probability of getting fixed
than the lack of XV.

These are the two thing on the top of my head but I guess there are
more and people are probably working to address some of these gaps
as well.
