Hello,

I have not followed everything from this package, and I am distantly
involved with Guix, but maybe it’s worth considering whether the
maintainer wants the project to succeed or whether it is meant as a
weapon against whatever they understand as DEI.

Maybe it’s safe to assume that the goal of the project is simply to
attract controversies. In which case, its expected short life time will
be of little use and will badly serve the investment the users put in
it.

Maybe the maintainer wants this fork to succeed. In this case, having
them clarify their intent for the project will go a long way. I really
think convincing the maintainer to remove the anti-DEI sentiment would
be more sustainable than defending or rebranding the project.
Especially if the discussion comes from someone who cares about the
project enough to do the work to package it for Guix, against the known
controversy.

I’m not sure we can invoke the Guix Code of Conduct here, because it
generally can’t overlap with the spaces of individual projects. For
instance, sqlite is notorious for having an organization that is
incompatible with any reasonable code of conduct, and it is not only
packaged, but a direct dependency of guix itself. Now we know the
sqlite dependency was not a problem, but it seems risky to introduce
xlibre now.

I hope this helps.

Vivien
