Well, the answer here is simply one of higher education. To get a degree 
in computer science a college graduate has to complete several math 
requirements including algebra, trig, and calculous. I also remember 
having to take a statistics class, some physics, all in addition to my 
programming courses. The end result is these highly trained graduates 
are the guys who get picked to work for the big name game companies. 
Especially, the guys who are top in their classes of which I was not.
