Thanks for the feedback !

The same machine has L-M 6.1, RH52 and win 95 installed and the printer
works fine with the other OS's.

A followup to this list I sent today did not arrive or else got
'/dev/nulled" :>) so I will add the latest development:

Shortly after a repeated print failure and /dev/lp* disappearing again,
On an impulse I brought up 'lsmod' to view :

Module Size Used by
parport_probe 3492 2 (uninitialized)
parport_pc 5940 1 (autoclean)
lp 5820 1 (uninitialized)
parport 7580 1 (autoclean) [parport_probe parport_pc
lp]

Okay I rm -f -r /var/spool/lpd/lp

Delete lp from 'printtool'

reboot, bring up printtool, 'add printer' yep it freezes the first time
Quit printtool, start 'printtool', 'add printer' yes it works this time
again.

'lsmod'

After turning off the computer this time in the pm
rebooting in the am

'lsmod' gives me
[root@home /root]# lsmod

Not an lp in site or parport ?

So I go to print; try it in Netscape and WP

Nothing happens

lpq

Rank Owner Job Files Total Size
1st bill 0 (standard input) 12572 bytes
2nd bill 1 /tmp/_pp_0000001308_1 1033 bytes

'lprm' locks up

[root@home /root]# lpc status
lp:
        queuing is enabled
        printing is enabled
        2 entries in spool area

[root@home /root]# lpc start lp
lp:
        printing enabled
        daemon started

[root@home /root]# /etc/rc.d/init.d/lpd status
lpd (pid 1288 518) is running...

Once again we have multiple pid's

[root@home /root]# cat sample.cf~ >/dev/lp

Gives me another entry in 'lpq' but no printing

[root@home /root]# lsmod

parport 7580 1 (autoclean) [parport_probe parport_pc
lp]

Okay back to the uninitialized routine again!

0730 AK time end session

Start again 0900

'lprm ' doesn't work again to remove jobs in quues so its back to square
one.

Deleting printers in 'printtool' and attempting to 'add printer'

/dev/lp0: Not detected
/dev/lp1: Not detected
/dev/lp2: Not detected

1000 AK time
I will log out now but not reboot. I know all this means something but
what? Endlessly installing, and uninstalling and rebooting as a L-M 6.1
experience is leaving me tired and frustrated.
