Well for now Printer Woes are over concerning the bizzarre behavior
detailed in previous posts. The final solution to getting my printer
working was removing the
lpr-0.43-1mdk.i586.rpm (the 'update') and replacing it with:
lpr-0.38-3mdk.i586.rpm (the default in 6.1 Helios)
This was brought to my attention by Lee Burnside who had the same kind
of HP printer behavior and suggested the "downgrade". A classic example
of "when is an upgrade a downgrade?" I used to think only M$ was guilty
!:-) Well we ALL are failable even Linux from time to time !
I did not have Lee's solution in this mornings "Expert" List on my
machine but found it in Mandrake.Com's List Archives !!!??? Do postings
go there first?!
It would also be very nice if the drivers listed as working for HP, i.e.
850x etc did in fact WORK. WP8 (free version) has one and it works great
in WP !
