Helios 6.1
Little by Little
#/etc/rc.d/init.d/lpd status
gives "lpd (pid 8173) is running" . So at least we know that it is
indeed working!
Nice comand by the way. I'm sure I'll use that one again.
#cat testfile >/dev/lp0 =
At first nothing happened. Then I brought up 'top' saw a process called
'lockd'
flailed away, gritted my teeth and did a #kill -9 554
So Then the #cat testfile >/dev/lp0 =
The printer at least "felt" something was happening ready light blinks
then error light . Pushing button prints out breif stair-step excerpt of
some of the file.
'top' shows 'lockd <defunct>' Never saw that before!

Trying the "cat" idea as 'user' I also discovered permissions for
printing are gone. 'bash:/dev/lp0: Permission denied'
None of this has ever happened to me before with any versions of Linux.
Thanks for your continued help!?
