To all those who have helped and have also wrestled with these various
problems.

The lsmaod check remended me of a post several weeks ago. I managed to
track it down and tried it out. So far I have had a functioning printer
for three days running now, a new record for me in Linux-Mandrake 6.1,
but definitely nothing to brag about.

I had convinced several individuals to try out Linux-Mandrake recently
including a die-hard M$ NT instructor and am very troubled by the
difficulty in something as basic as a listed and common printer
configuration.

I have not been the only one to meet new and unexpected problems with
this latest version of Linux-Mandrake. Yes, I had planned to purchase a
"boxed set" just to support "the cause" but will now hold off for 6.2
perhaps.

To get to the gist of this post:

>I've had a similar problem after upgrading my Mandrake 6.0 to 6.1,
>posted a question some time ago but got no response. What fixed it for
>me was to add the following lines at the end of /etc/rc.d/rc.local

>/sbin/modprobe parport
>/sbin/modprobe parport_pc
>/sbin/modprobe lp

>--now my printer works again, maybe that helps you as well!

>bye, Willy

Who ever you are Willy thanks alot, you've given me hope again that I
can quit rebooting into M$ to print.

After rebooting LInux yet again, this is working for me as well. However
this was posted Oct 6 !!!!

Why is this issue not addressed. A "new user" would certainly not know
to "add" these to HUH??? I am sure that if this is indeed a (I hope )
permanent fix for me that the reasons can be addressed by someone more
astute that my feeble attempts at "Linuxizing" :-)

If there are only two of us in the world who had this problem that would
be different.

I would ask any of you who have problems and and think this might help
to try this.

Please let me know if it works so I can pass it on to the NT instructor
that,
"oh yeah, you just add xyz to
wfpd.rcd/xwf.rccccccc.x/etf/rint.d/yuck.local, heck everbody knows
that!"

Thanks to Everyone and especially the hardworking programmers at
Linux-Mandrake
who have to put up with users like me.
