I just reconnected the battery and switched on to boot into Parted

I spoke too soon. After a few minutes, the message changed to 6% *not
charging* and KDE threatened to shut the machine down.
I then booted into Partition Magic and got this from upower - i:
native-path: BAT0
vendor: Samsung SDI
model: DELL P8TC727
serial: 312
power supply: yes
updated: Thu 10 Oct 2024 02:55:03 PM BST (16 seconds ago)
has history: yes
has statistics: yes
battery
present: yes
rechargeable: yes
state: charging
energy: 3.0488 Wh
energy-empty: 0 Wh
energy-full: 45.14 Wh
energy-full-design: 45.14 Wh
energy-rate: 0 W
voltage: 4.368 V
percentage: 6%
capacity: 100%
technology: lithium-ion
The machine stayed up OK, but the percentage never went up.
I'm not sure if the above info helps because the fault still lies
somewhere between the battery or the charging circuit. I'm inclined
towards the charging circuit, because the battery electronics seems to
be reporting correctly.
