No joy with that so far.  The problem is that most of the shops have
their own diagnostic tools, and they don't include battery analysers. 
One shop even told me that they would test the battery by plugging it in
to the laptop!  They would then know as much as I do, I imagine!

Also, I haven't been able to find out if it is possible to charge the
battery outside the laptop using a bench PSU.  I've seen one website
that did it, (with another battery type) but it seemed that he had to
fool the laptop electronics that there was a battery connected by
shorting two of the data pins together.  (I recall that you suggested
that this might be the problem, Ralph.) The problem is that I have no
idea what the pinouts on the battery are, let alone which two pins to
short together.

My problem is that the fault is not very easy to diagnose without full
service diagrams of the XPS 13 (9350), and I doubt that most computer
shops would have that anyway.
