I've used Redmine for instances where the group needed to be able to
update their own status, and Things (by Cultured Code) when I kept track
of everything.

The feature that I love most in Things is the Quick Entry dialog. Hit a
shortcut, type the basics, hit return. Being able to enter everything as
it comes up without having to completely switch from what I'm doing
helps me tremendously. There have been many a time where I lost track
of what I was doing because I saw something in the pending list that
sparked an idea, on my way to enter a new task.

It won't completely match the need for reporting on a time period. It
keeps track of completed tasks, but doesn't seem to be able to narrow
down to specific dates.
