Well unfortunately my problem is not a loose wire...I did the test on the motor, it works fine; problem is with the control head but only for autopilot, the main function of the unit, but I like that it still gives a correct digital heading and a measure of rudder angle so I won't rush the control head in for repair, probably do that this winter, I lived without autosteering before so that's what I have til next summer, no autosteering, unless I can find a deal on a control head...I found the service manual here and it explained how to take apart and test, maybe others here could use the reference too:
