You have had lots of advice...here's my take...even though I have a GPS
chartplotter and a handheld GPS, I would not be without my old Signet
speed instrument. Simply to say, I just like it as it read 2 digits
after the decimal point in big digital numbers in the cockpit.....and it
is very responsive.
A few years back, the transducer failed.....bummer....called Signet in
California, they sent me a new transducer attached to 30' feet of
cable....guy on the phone said to not splice the wires/cable from the
transducer to the cockpit display....said it wouldn't work
properly....didn't say why? Said to run the new cable from the new
transducer to the cockpit display.....yes right......easy for C&C to do
it when they were building the boat, not so easy now in the same place(s).
So we spliced the new transducer onto the old cable to the cockpit
display......has been working fine.
And they threw in 2 of the 6" display covers for free.

I worked with the paddle wheel last night ad was able to clean it. It
now spins freely but shows however it still has no activity on the
ohms meter. All that being said, how much does this speed help you
anyway? I mean it will tell me how fast the river is passing under my
boat but not if Im making speed? The GPS tells me distance over the
ground, I have been sailing real good before and not making much
distance over the ground. What are your thoughts on this? I will hook
it back up and try it tonight after work. But if there is no activity
on the meter It may have a bad wire or something.
Thanks for you guys helping me out. I take no offence I know Im green
at all of this and expect a bit of new guy jokes and slapping around.
Its all good with me Im just glad to have someone to ask help from.
I am very glad you guys are her.
