When my darling wife was new to me and didn't quite get people who live and
breath sailing, she made a comment at dinner with friends one evening. He
was lamenting losing his beloved Swan 48 in a divorce and trying to figure
how to get it back. "Why don't you just find a different one," my wife
said. "It's only a boat."
My friend and I almost jumped down her throat in our attempts to explain
the emotional attachment that causes us to spend way more on our toys than
is warranted in a sane world. She just about wound up in tears.
Ten years later, she is the driver behind buying our C&C 40, having fallen
in love with the boat. Now she "gets it."
Lucky me to have married such a patient, long-suffering woman!
