This boat just sold in two weeks for asking price: <http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/1985/Catalina-Sloop-2540451/La-Paz%2C-BCS/Mexico>

I know another boat (Valiant 40) that just sold for 1/3 it's value, but it was in New Zealand, and where do you go from there?

Location Location Location... and positioning the boat for the target market. That Catalina 36 was well maintained and perfectly for outfitted for light to medium cruising, set up for someone who wanted to hang out at the dock in Mexico and entertain but still anchorage-hop every now and then. I know the old owners, and they maintained it perfectly. Safety gear, custom awnings, air conditioning, etc. Even after the sale was closed, he was checking stuff to make sure the new owner wouldn't have unexpected problems. All I could say was 'Man, I should buy a boat from you...' Frankly, for the price the new owners are getting the deal of the century.

I probably couldn't sell Stella Blue for half of that.
