I have the TackTick system on my 29 MKII and am pretty happy with it. I did not buy the compass unit and may do that in the future so that I can realize all of the benefits of the system. Without that I can't get real VMG for instance and use all of the tools in it to determine best wind angles and help with when to turn to the layline, etc. when racing. For the beercan stuff I do, it is great. As Joel says I have had an issue on occasion with the wind instrument. It worked great when I first put it on, but at the end of the first season I started getting suspect wind direction readings. I took the transmitter off the top of the mast and sent it back to Raymarine along with all the other instruments to have the software updated. They did this for free even though I bought the system from TackTick when it was a separate company. I was happy with that, although they only have one guy in the service department that knows anything about TackTick or how to work on it The system worked great for the first 4 months after I re-installed it. However, lately the wind direction reading will occasionally point somewhere different than what my windex does. This mostly happens in light air. This past Sunday I was out in 10-20kts and it was spot on the entire time. The depth and speed gauge work great. I have also used the race start clock on occasion and things like water temp are interesting, but not that useful to me. If you get it, spend some time getting familiar with how you walk through the libraries / pages so that when your crew bumps one of the buttons you can get back to what you really want displayed. On Sunday we were short handed with only 4 of us racing the boat and somebody did just that. I handed the wheel over to another crew member (not Joel) and went forward to reset it so I could see depth, which is critical on the river we sail in. While I'm fiddling with the unit we get a 20kt gust and the driver broaches the boat momentarily.
The depth is nice because you can do a keel offset so you can read water depth or depth under the keel. Unlike Edd, I don't use the depth alarm because the water we race in is so shallow that it would always be going off Pat Nevitt *Patriot* C&C 29 MKII Galesville, MD On Tue, Oct 2, 2012 at 11:07 AM, Fred Hazzard <fredhazz...@spiritone.com>wrote: > Do any of you have some thoughts or opinions about the Tacktick wireless > instrument systems?**** > > ** ** > > Fred Hazzard**** > > S/V Fury**** > > C&C 44**** > > _______________________________________________ > This List is provided by the C&C Photo Album > http://www.cncphotoalbum.com > CnC-List@cnc-list.com > >
