In regardss to mounting radar radome positions after having done an extensive
refit and mounting my Garmin radome on the mast with a self levelling mount I
would advise to use a back stay or aft pole mounted position.

Why, When sailing offshore I now appreciate the need to keep clean and clear
any potential areas where an errand halyard, topping lift or even sail can wrap
around.

Depending on your model and placement fore sails coming in contact with the
radome can also impact performance.

That said many imes it is as importnat to know where someone else is and not
just where you are. I would not want to sail in heavy fog without being able
to radar ahead or call traffic control to ask them what traffic is apporaching
in confined harbors.
