I was just able to check and the Hull # begins with CCY.  I believe after
reading all of the posts that it was manufactured in RI. I am also assuming
that any manufacturing defect would have shown up long ago.  I am arranging for
a thorough survey and will base my decision on that.

I have no first hand knowledge about build quality differences between RI and
Ontario.  However a a co-worker who owned a 29' C&C, commented that his boat
was built in RI by "Barely Careful" and had a number of quality related issues
over the years.

My '83 Landfall 38 HIN starts with ZCC.

I would think that any build issues would have become apparent long before now
on a boat that is almost 30 years old.

I had assumed my LF38 was built in NotL but
our boat seems to be a special build as the sail number ( 229 ) is out of
sequence for the rest of them. The HIN is ZCC. I’ll double check the
builders file I have.

That was my impression, I
hadn't heard of any built in NOL.

I would try and find a boat built while Barry Carroll was on vacation.

I'm very close to purchasing a 38 Landfall and am wondering if it was
constructed in Ontario or Rhode Island .  It is a 1983 vintage and
have been told that you can tell by looking at the Hull #.  What am I looking
for in the
hull # ? Also, can anyone tell me if there is a significant difference in
the quality of build between the boats built in RI and those built in Ontario
?  Any other
advice?  I have sailed many different C&C's (33R, 38 Mark II,
37R, 40, 115) and like them all.  Just want to be an informed buyer.
