My 25 is a CCY and the HIN is 225. Without pulling the build file or looking it up, I recall that production started in about October 74, making her a 75 model.
I lived in PA when I bought her, and used the Maryland registration information to get the PA title. When I moved to NC and applied for the local title and registration, I had a heck of a time. The HIN in the hull is CCY25225, but the paperwork said CCY250225. The hull number confusion extends even to the manufacturer, apparently. It took weeks to get the Fish & Wildlife folks convinced that it was the same boat. Rick, According to http://www.cncphotoalbum.com/reviews/cnchistory/index.htm The RI plant opened in Feb '76. I've always been curious about how many 25's were made, Mk1 and Mk2, and how many in each model year. I've seen Mk1's from 1972 to 1977, and Mk2's from 1980 to 1984. So whenever I see a HIN, I write it down. I have a list of a few dozen of them. For the 25, the 1972-1974 boats are all CCY and the 1976-1984 boats are all ZCC. The '75s are a mix of both, with the earlier hull numers being CCY and the later being ZCC. Hull #398 built in Feb '75 (a year before the RI plant opened) is a ZCC. I have two boats – a 25 with HIN beginning in CCY and a 38 with HIN beginning with ZCC – and I bought the build files for both of them from South Shore. The file on the 25 has customs paperwork for shipment to a dealer in NJ from C&C Yachts in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont. Interestingly, the file on the 38 also has customs paperwork for shipment from C&C Yachts to a dealer in MI through Detroit. And there is paperwork for EXPORT from the US through Niagara Falls, NY. That leads me to believe that the 38 was built in Rhode Island, shipped to Niagara-on-the-Lake for the addition of optional equipment (there is a list of stuff like the backstay adjuster and the custom length spin pole and reaching strut attached to the Detroit paperwork), and then sent on to the selling dealer. So I would presume that CCY was the code for Canada, and ZCC was the code for Rhode Island. But someone has told me that the 25’s were built in Rhode Island; so I am confused here. A search of the USCG Manufacturer ID database at http://www.uscgboating.org/recalls/mic1.aspx?mic=zcc <http://www.uscgboating.org/recalls/mic1.aspx?mic=zcc&sort=mic> &sort=mic shows ZCC to be NOTL, but CCY belongs to another manufacturer. Maybe they reassign the code numbers after a period of unused. I'm very close to purchasing a 38 Landfall and am wondering if it was constructed in Ontario or Rhode Island. It is a 1983 vintage and have been told that you can tell by looking at the Hull #. What am I looking for in the hull # ? Also, can anyone tell me if there is a significant difference in the quality of build between the boats built in RI and those built in Ontario? Any other advice? I have sailed many different C&C's (33R, 38 Mark II, 37R, 40, 115) and like them all. Just want to be an informed buyer.
