BTW, I cannot find any difference in quality between my two boats. The strength and quality of the 25 was a large part of the decision to buy the 38 (which cost me - in May 2003 - almost the same price the original owner paid in May 1976). They share many design attributes (like the hull to deck joint arrangement) and seem to be on a par for construction.
On a 20-30 year old boat the quality of the design and quality of maintenance by previous owners is probably a lot more important than the workmanship of the factory. Get a good survey. Thanks Jim. I received the same feedback from others regarding boats built under Carroll's leadership. It's unfortunate, because even with their design limitations, I like the boat for the price and how I am planning on using it. Will probably still just rely on a good survey to give me a heads up on issues. That was my impression, I hadn't heard of any built in NOL. I would try and find a boat built while Barry Carroll was on vacation. It is a 1983 vintage and have been told that you can tell by looking at the Hull #. What am I looking for in the hull # ? Also, can anyone tell me if there is a significant difference in the quality of build between the boats built in RI and those built in Ontario? Any other advice? I have sailed many different C&C's (33R, 38 Mark II, 37R, 40, 115) and like them all.
