When using clamdscan (which is just an interface to clamd), one can scan only these files which clamd has access to. So if clamd is run as unpriviliged user and mail files are owned by someone else, clamdscam / clamd can't scan them. -- Tomasz Papszun SysAdm @ TP S.A.
