Not really hard, but a lot of work:

Define colormodels BC_YUVJ420P, BC_YUVJ422P and BC_YUVJ444P and write conversions from/to all the other colormodels. Then use these for all (M)JPEG
material, while the others (without 'J') are for MPEG.

That's how I do it in my projects, and it works perfect.
