Oh okay, I see what you're asking here, too. I think the combinations in the AAA were more straightforward and simple, and somehow more conducive to planning and resource-management (not having to map to an arbitrary set of Agoran actions helped). I dunno, it's kind of like saying "why does one boardgame work, and another fail? They're both boardgames." Sometimes an idea is great but the game balance is just... off. -G.
