Persistence. I called every week for about 3 months. Got every dollar I asked for (and then some due to their incompetence). It's simply a time sink, so have some music/video handy to keep your mind busy.
Get the police report number. If you can, call the officer and get the driver + its information. Explain the situation. Pictures and create a bill of materials - your hourly labor watching over it, a new generator cost, crane rental to move the generator, digging labor to fix the fence, etc. EVERY item should be on there. I just did a simple spreadsheet and attached replacement part quotes (FDH with splitter etc).
