Forgive my asking but are you sure you are using kdm and not some other display manager like gdm, xdm, etc.? It is possible to be running KDE 2.2 desktop w/ some other display manager underneath I believe. If you are running gdm you can run gdmconfig (GUI front end to gdm config file) to enable XDMCP. I need to submit a clarification to sourcecodecorner.com.
If you are *sure* you are running kdm ( `ps -A | grep dm` ), then I need to do some digging. It has been a while since I setup my RH 7.2 box. The RH 7.2 machine I had is now running Debian and my other box is RH 7.1. If you are sure you are running kdm and it isn't working (hopefully someone else will have better insight) I will bring my RH 7.1 box to up to 7.2 and work through it with you. Keep us posted. I only get a grey screen on the viewer (no login/password), which Jeff seems to indicate should be a problem with xdmcp. I checked UDP port 177 with nmap as suggested and it's closed so I guess that's the problem. I have changed these 2x lines in kdmrc (previously commented out): [Xdmcp] Enable=true Port=177 and for Xaccess I uncommented one line to read: any host can get a login windows previously '#* #any host can get a login window' Also commented out 'DisplayManager.requestPort: 0' in xdm-config. All other lines the original defaults supplied with RH7.2 apart from the new entries in services and xinetd. What have I missed?
