Actually, it is.  A single trailing dot is perfectly legal in a FQDN.  In fact, 
it's arguably a good thing to put the trailing dot, though I've never seen 
anybody do so.

Most ISPs that host multiple web sites on a single host will not check for the 
"."-ed version of the domain name they sell you.  But the request will get to 
the right server.
