I added a workaround in the description of the bug report that worked for me and a few persons. Can someone try that workaround and confirm if you can get usplash to work with it?
** Description changed: - Binary package hint: usplash + This bug happens with a nvidia geforce 8xxx card and ubuntu amd64 I have a fresh install of Gutsy Gibbon Beta, on an EM64T architecture. The problem is that after selecting the GRUB menu entry to boot Ubuntu, the screen turns black and does not show nothing again. In order to boot Ubuntu, I have to edit the boot options and change "splash" to "nosplash". - Saïvann : This bug has been seen on a lot of nvidia Geforce 8 but - doesn't seem to happen with Geforce 7 and older nvidia. + Workaround : This can make usplash appears, but probably that it will not in the center of the screen + 1. Modify /etc/usplash.conf to have the good resolution for your graphic card and screen + 2. Modify /boot/grub/menu.lst (add vga=795 at the end of the kernel line) + 3. Modify /etc/initramfs-tools/modules (add vesafb on the last line) + 4. Modify /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-framebuffer (comment out 'blacklist vesafb') + 5. Run 'sudo update-initramfs -u' -- [amd64 + nvidia 8xxx] usplash shows nothing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/147623 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
